Previously, businesses migrating from square took weeks to manually recreate data on Shopify, or manually convert data to match Shopify's common CSV template. Now Shopify merchants can migrate product, inventory and customer data from square to Shopify! With the store importer application, businesses can upload the CSV file exported from square, and Shopify will be responsible for converting and loading the data into the correct format.

Product, inventory and customer data can be transferred accurately with just a few clicks.

Steps to migrate from square to Shopify

Step 1: export store data from square

The first step in store migration is to export product, inventory, and customer data from square. After the export is complete, the computer will download two CSV files containing square data for importing data into shopif.

    Steps:

    1. Log in to square account and enter advanced settings.
    2. To download product and inventory data, go to export your library and export in CSV format.
    3. To download customer data, go to your customer page and click Import / export > export customers > download.

Step 2: import the store data into Shopify

After exporting product, inventory and customer data from square to a CSV file, you need to import these files into Shopify.

    migrate square to shopify

    Steps:

      1. In the Shopify background, click Application > store import tool.
      2. On the import data into Shopify page, check square from the drop-down menu.
      3. In the upload file module, click add file, and then select the exported CSV file.
      4. Click continue import > import.

    be careful:

If the platform on the store import tool page is not the target store platform, drop down to the bottom of the page and click to select a different platform. Then check square in the drop-down menu.

Step 3: check and update the imported data

If the data is imported successfully, the product and customer data will appear in the background of Shopify. If some products or customers are not imported successfully, you can add them manually.

    Steps:

    1. Check product, inventory and customer data in shopif background to confirm that all data has been imported. If some data is not imported, manually add missing products or missing customer records.

    Check data import error

If there is an error importing data with a CSV file, see the solution to the common product CSV import problem.

If you notice that the data is not imported properly, see the following solution.

    Import succeeded, need to change

When the import is complete, the import summary page displays the details of the import. Check the message in the view section of the import summary for any errors. Click the view item next to these information to manually edit the imported information.

Import data based on existing imports

If you think that some data is missing in the last import, you can click start new import and import the data again on the basis of the current import.

    • If Shopify stores or previous imports already contain customer data, they will be updated. First, customers are matched by e-mail. If no matching e-mail is found, customers are matched by phone number. If a match is found, the existing record is updated as follows: Coverage tax free and marketing subscription status. Add labels, addresses, and notes for the import. If the first name, last name, or phone number fields in the existing records are empty and included in the imported customer records, add them.
    • If the import contains existing products of Shopify, the matching products in the import will be skipped and will not be imported. After the import is complete, the skipped products will be displayed in the import summary.

    Other frequently asked questions:

    Delete store imported data

If you are not satisfied with the data import, you can delete it. For example, if the imported data contains many failed items, it might help to delete the import and try again. You can delete only the latest imported data. Please wait for the data to be completely deleted before starting another import.

    Steps:

    1. On the import completion page, click Delete import.
    2. In the delete Import dialog, click Delete import.

After deleting all the imported files, click start new import to start another import.

    Customer password considerations:

Because the password is encrypted, the customer password cannot be migrated from other platforms to Shopify. Therefore, only customer records are migrated to Shopify, not customer accounts.

Failed to import some product or customer records If some products or customers are not imported, you can add products or customers.

Product pictures and custom properties are not imported. You need to add product pictures to the shopif store.

The import does not contain any customers who use the same email address or phone number. If two or more customers share an email address or phone number, only the newly created customer entry is imported.

Imported products are only available in online stores When products are initially imported, they are only available in online stores. To make these products available in physical stores, please provide them through the sales terminal (POS).

    Steps:

    1. Click product in the background of Shopify.
    2. Use the check box to check each product you want to modify.

    Tips:

    • You can batch check all the options listed on the page and all the products in the store.
    • Click more actions > Add available channels.
    • Click on the sales terminal.
    • Click to make the product available for sale.

Variable price product import price is 0

The imported price of products with variable price or location pricing is 0 and cannot be sold in any sales channel. The system will prompt you to check these products and set the price for each affected product.
